Case Study #3: Rinker Materials
Maintenance Skills Progression
The Plant
The plant was located in West Palm Beach, Florida. Rinker Materials Corporation operates in 31 states across the country, employing more than 10,500 people at over 381 locations.
Rinker is one of the largest producers of concrete block in the United States, and one of the largest producers of pipe, aggregate, ready mixed concrete and cement.
BE&K’s Process
BE&K offers a Maintenance Skills Progression Program to every employee. The program is designed to provide employees a “road map” for a career in maintenance.
BE&K’s Role
BE&K Industrial Services provided assessments to selected Rinker Materials personnel and potential employees based on their knowledge of maintenance craft skills. The assessment, based on BE&K’s Maintenance Skills Progression Program, determines the level of skill. A hands-on analysis was also conducted for each employee.
Upon evaluation of assessment results, BE&K provided a prescription of training modules for each individual assessed to achieve acceptable standards as determined by Rinker management.
